Deck-building

Deck Building

Tools and workflows for creating and refining your Commander decks.

Creating Decks

Start a new deck from the dashboard or sidebar. You'll need to choose a commander first - search by name, then pick the version you want. Partner commanders and background commanders are both supported.

From scratch

Search for a commander and start building card by card.

Clone a deck

Clone any public deck to your library, then customize it.

Your deck's color identity is automatically derived from your commander. The card search will warn you if you try to add cards outside your color identity.

Importing Decks

Paste a deck list from any major platform - Moxfield, Archidekt, MTGO, or plain text format. The importer automatically detects:

  • Card names and quantities
  • Sections (mainboard, sideboard, maybeboard)
  • Commander designation
  • Set codes and collector numbers for specific printings
The importer handles multi-face cards like Esika, God of the Tree correctly, matching the right printing and artwork.

Deck Editor

The deck editor is where you add, remove, and organize cards. Changes are auto-saved as you work, with a visual indicator showing save status.

  • Quick-add search bar at the top of the editor
  • Keyboard navigation with arrow keys through the card list
  • Undo/redo support for recent changes
  • Recent changes feed showing your edit history
  • Card quantity and section (main/side/maybe) controls
Press / to focus the card search from anywhere in the editor.

Color Identity

EDH Lib enforces color identity rules to help you build legal Commander decks. Cards outside your commander's color identity are flagged throughout the app:

Search filtering

Toggle color identity filtering on search results to only see legal cards.

Off-color warnings

Cards outside your identity show a warning badge and toast when added.

Color identity filtering is on by default in the editor search. Toggle it off with the shield icon if you intentionally want to add off-color cards.

Search for cards to add to your deck using several modes:

Basic search

Type a card name. Results prioritized by relevance and popularity.

Advanced search

Use Scryfall syntax like t:creature c:green cmc<=3.

Theme search

Search by theme like 'ramp', 'removal', or 'card draw'.

Land search

Find lands that produce your deck's colors.

Cards outside your commander's color identity are flagged but can still be added. Multi-select mode lets you add multiple cards at once with checkboxes.

Mana Base Builder

The mana base builder helps you construct a balanced land base for your deck. It analyzes your deck's color requirements and suggests lands accordingly.

  • Lands organized by category: duals, fetches, utilities, basics
  • Real-time mana production calculations as you select lands
  • Basic land quantity controls with +/- buttons
  • Hover previews for every land in the list
  • Batch add - select multiple lands and add them all at once

Categories

Organize your deck cards into custom categories beyond the default type-based grouping.

  • Auto-categorize - One click to sort all cards into functional categories (Ramp, Removal, Card Draw, etc.) based on what each card does
  • Custom categories - Create your own categories and drag cards between them
  • Category-based view - View your deck organized by category in both masonry and text list layouts

Card Packages

Card packages are reusable groups of cards that you can add to any deck. Think of them as building blocks - a "Sol Ring + Signets" package, a "Rhystic Study + Mystic Remora" draw package, etc.

Create packages

Group cards you frequently use together.

Share packages

Make packages public for others to discover and clone.

Deck Sections

Every deck has four sections for organizing cards:

Mainboard

Your 99 cards (or 98 with partner commanders).

Sideboard

Cards for swapping in specific matchups.

Maybeboard

Cards you're considering but haven't committed to.

Planar

Planechase planes and phenomena cards.

Category Templates

Save your category setup as a reusable template and apply it to new decks instantly. No more recreating "Ramp, Draw, Removal, Lands" every time.

Save as template

Capture your current deck's categories as a reusable template.

Apply on creation

Pick a template when creating a new deck to start with your preferred categories.

Templates save category names and configuration, not card assignments. Cards are still auto-categorized based on what they do.

Export Formats

Export your deck list to the clipboard in several formats for use in other tools and platforms:

Arena1 Sol Ring (C21) 284
MTGO1 Sol Ring
Full1x Sol Ring (C21) 284 *F* [Ramp]

One-click export

Copy to clipboard from the share dropdown on any deck view.

Sandbox Mode

Try deck building without creating an account. Sandbox mode gives you the full editor experience using local storage.

  • Full card search and deck building tools
  • Commander selection with partner support
  • Auto-categorization and mana base builder
  • Deck saved locally in your browser

Try without signing in

Build a deck in sandbox, then sign in to save it permanently.

When you sign in after building in sandbox, your deck is automatically migrated to your account. Nothing is lost.
